THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF BELIEVING IN YOURSELF
“You are Braver than you believe, Stronger than you seem, and Smarter than you think.” ~ Christopher Robin
Hello Maniacs,
I love this quote from Christopher Robin. I have used these words so many times in my life. Walking into a gym at the age of 35 and weighing in at – well weighing in at about 115kgs, was not easy. I had to be strong and I had to be brave. Of course everyone was staring at me because that is what fat and unhealthy people think – that everyone is staring at them. Well, it is true, and I swear “they” are still staring at me – probably laughing too. But I am strong and I am brave and 11 years later I am still in the game. The game of fitness and health is a tough one. It is a game you have to work at every single day. The consequences of neglecting your wellness is bleak, so let’s not go down that road on our journey.
Along with being brave and strong, one has to believe in themselves. Without self-belief you will achieve nothing. You have to believe that you can achieve your goals. You have to believe that you have what it takes to progress your fitness, health and wellbeing.
When I started my journey, I believed that I – COULD – NOT – RUN – well, to be honest, an obese middle aged woman shouldn’t actually be running – can you image the sight of that falling over!!!!!! Not to mention the shattered bones. Anyway, as long as I believed I could not run, I was never going to run.
Once I had lost 30kgs, I reminded myself of what I had already achieved – a level of fitness, lost fat, gained a little muscle. I was ready and so the next part of my journey began. I am not a fast runner, I am not an attractive runner either but I move forward. The moment I believed that I could do it, I started running. I like running – the thought of it does not exactly thrill me but the fact that I can do it really motivates me. After a 5kms run I feel like I have really moved forward on my fitness journey. This is not my original goal but it made me realise that goals can change and most importantly, self believe allows you to achieve your goals.
So, believe in yourselves. Believe you can run a 10km race, believe you can do 10 burpees, believe you can do 50 push ups. Whatever your goal is, you start achieving that goal the moment you start believing in yourself.
Until Next Time
